The Foundation would like to invite PhD students and researchers who teach students to a session called ?Evidence-based teaching ? just the facts or thinking like scientists??, to be held in Gułtowy near Poznań on 16-19 September 2013.

The aim of the meeting is to present the principles and techniques of scientific teaching and their practical application. Special emphasis will be placed on how to use scientific teaching as a tool for inspiring students to choose careers in experimental sciences.

Classes will be held in a workshop format. During these intensive four days of classes, participants will learn about the principles and objectives of the theory of scientific teaching as well as obtaining answers to the following questions:

  • when and how to form a group focused on students (and not the curriculum or the teacher),
  • how to design a semester syllabus,
  • how to develop and employ a learning progress evaluation system and then use the information to improve teaching programmes and techniques,
  • how to introduce a system in which students would support one another in the learning process,
  • how to build and maintain a support network for teachers and lecturers.

The workshops, which will primarily cover issues relevant for the biological sciences, provide an excellent background for researchers planning to teach students during their academic career.

The following experts will take part:

  • Prof. Diane Ebert-May, PhD (Michigan State University, USA)
  • Jarosław Bryk, PhD (University of Reading, UK)

All those interested in taking part in this meeting are kindly requested to fill in the form.
